![]() When we were Motown Live Dancers… part 1These are numbers from Motown Live way back in 1998, choreographed by Jamie King (madonna, britney spears). I was one of the ‘Motown Live Dancers’, along with Faune Chambers, vergi rodriguez, havic gregory, dante henderson, no bonz, vanessa tarazona, tanika ray, kim cottom, nadine ellis, carmit bachar, donyelle artiz, carolina lancaster, sharon ferguson and Lisa. We did a full length number per week at least, sort of unheard of at the time. definitely the closest i will ever come to being Solid Gold or Soul Train Dancer jamie had to fight for sharon ferguson and i because i was too light and she was too dark. i’d like to say it was a different time, but its not THAT different. at one point i actually broke down in tears behind the curtain right before shooting the Christmas number. we were there to do these fantastic numbers and then they kept dragging us up to these little corners to dance in darkness to add a little bit of silhouette and movement up in the rafters. i was there back from europe where i actually got credit and appreciation for my work, and being treated like a identity-less body it was one of those moments i’ll never forget. i realized i didnt want to dance if that was going to be what i would do. i stopped taking just any job that came my way, and i also got clear for myself that if i accepted a job, i ACCEPTED a job and could deal with whatever was thrown at me and make it into a greater opportunity than it was to begin with. and then the curtain opened. all my worry washed away for the few minutes while we did the number, like it always does, and there i was just having fun performing again. i love watching these numbers now, we had fun. it was tanika ray’s last dance ob before she started hosting. faune and donyelle went off and started acting. carmit became a pussycat doll. i think it signalled a switch in life for many of us. for me i think it left me a bit confused, but after this i started writing, so it all happened for a reason Leave a Reply |
